Kathryn is a marketing and communications professional who grew up in Cameron, South Carolina. Her parents – both pharmacists – instilled in her a life-long passion for helping others, a passion they came by honestly from their own parents. Kathryn grew up hearing stories of her Granddaddy aiding farmers in Cameron through the Farmers Home Administration and her Papa, a truck driver from Easley, always having the patience to lend an ear and the time to lend a hand when anyone needed it.
With a professional reputation as someone who gets stuff done, Kathryn is running to bring a focus to issues that improve our quality of life. Her priority will always be the people of Berkeley County, Mount Pleasant, and North Charleston. The district needs to see real change in economic uplift, education, infrastructure, and healthcare. That change takes new leadership.
Kathryn has a B.A. in Communication Studies from Clemson University. During college, she spent a summer as a public relations intern for Mayor Joe Riley and the City of Charleston, where she learned the importance of the public information department and of staying in close touch with the people the office serves.
She and her husband Gabe, a Citadel grad, have been married for fifteen years. They have two children – Hannah, a 6th grader at Laing Middle School and Cape, a 2nd grader at Jennie Moore Elementary. They are members of Seacoast Church and lead a Married Life Small Group.
A tireless advocate for women and girls, Kathryn is a past chair of Women United of Trident United Way and member of the Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network. She was a member of the inaugural class of Emerge South Carolina, a leading candidate-training program for Democratic women.
She has participated in the Roper St. Francis Fellows program and been recognized as a 40 Under Forty award winner. She’s served on the Board of Directors for Trident United Way and for the Legal Marketing Association, as well as President of its Southeastern Region.
